The Trek Fuel EX 9.7 Gen 5 is a whole suspension trail bike with upper mid-range components.

It features a lightweight and rigid OCLV Full Mountain Carbon frame with internal storage, a 140mm FOX Rhythm 36 fork, and 130mm rear travel with a FOX Float Performance rear shock with efficient RE:aktiv Trek dampers.

The bike also features a wide-range Shimano SLX/XT 1×12 drivetrain, Line Comp 30 TLR wheels with 54-gear Rapid Drive rear hub, Bontrager Line dropper post, and powerful Shimano 4-piston hydraulic disc brakes.

The Fuel EX 9.7 Gen 5 is more straightforward to ride uphill than similar bikes and is geared up much the same as similar bikes for downhill riding.

The 2024 Trek Fuel EX 9.7 Gen 5 can accept a 27.5″ rear wheel if you raise the fork travel to 160mm, and it also sees adjustable head angle and flexible posterior shock development.

The downtube storage compartment is on the new bike but doesn’t have Knock Block.

This bike is designed for trail mountain riding and offers excellent geometry with adjustable head angle, efficient and comfortable climbing performance and, coil shock, big fork & mullet compatibility.

However, the frame is heavy, and the rear shock absorbers lack little impact flex.

The key difference between top Fuel and ex-fuel is that top Fuel is designed for trail mountain biking, whereas ex-fuel is intended for trail mountain biking.
