2024 Trek Fuel EX 9.8 GX Gen 5 Review, Specs, Price

2024 Trek Fuel EX 9.8 GX Gen 5

The Trek Fuel EX 9.8 GX Gen 5 is a high-end, full-suspension trail bike with exceptional versatility and performance.

It features a 130mm rear and 140mm front FOX suspension with upgraded front and rear dampers, carbon wheels with a Rapid Drive bottom hub, and SRAM’s latest, widest-range drivetrain.

The bike has an adjustable geometry via Mino Link flip chip in the rear rocker link pivot, with XS having 27.5″ wheels, SM available with 27.5″ or 29″ wheels, and MD-XL having 29″ wheels. The bike is priced at around $6,050.

The 2024 Trek Fuel EX 9.8 GX Gen 5 has received a massive overhaul, with a 10mm travel bump front and rear, now sitting at 150mm front and 140mm end.

The bike can accept a 27.5″ rear wheel if you up the fork travel to 160mm, and it also sees an adjustable head angle and flexible back shock progression.

The bike is comfortable uphill, has intuitive handling, and has a high-quality frame with an integrated storage compartment.

However, the tires are puncture-prone and generate little traction, and the brakes don’t do the bike’s potential justice.

Overall, the 2024 Trek Fuel EX 9.8 GX Gen 5 is an excellent investment for one bike that does it all.

You get a light carbon frame, but the parts make this model, like the extra-adjustable GRIP damper, the magic carpet ride of Thru Shaft, and the blistering acceleration of carbon wheels with a Rapid Drive hub.

The bike is a high-value, high-performance mountain bike with exceptional versatility.
